Testimonials to the Power of Prayer
I know my God is a prayer- answering God. He’s at work everyday of our lives. His ears are open to our cries.
I’ve seen God save, restore, heal, deliver and set captives free in myself and family members. I know Him as all that and more. As I continue to trust Him and wait on Him to speak, my faith grows stronger. He is faithful to all His promises.
When I feel weak, I know I am strong in Him, because He says so. He promised that He would never leave nor forsake me.
Prayer has kept me when both physical death has taken a loved one and when things of this world have drawn a young family member to crime. But God who is faithful is in the midst and turns things around for His glory. Nothing I see in the natural can change what I believe in the spiritual realm. I choose to trust God in and for all things. Psalm 139: 16, 17.

I worked for this elderly couple and the husband always paid me with checks. After receiving one of the checks, I did not know where I placed it. I was embarrassed to tell him that I had lost it, so I said nothing. One morning I prayed, “Lord, please help me find the check.”
I went into the bedroom and decided to dust my furniture. In the midst of dusting, I placed my hand between the mattress and the footboard for no reason that I could think of. It’s a footboard with a large top that you can place things on. It could only be God that directed my steps and allowed me to find the envelope with the check. It could have stayed there for another ten years!

The year was 2003, when I became ill. I was hospitalized for three months. During which time, I spent 2 weeks in the ICU. Of my 150 pounds, I lost 75 pounds. I could not walk, talk, eat or read. But thanks be to God, for the prayers of the saints. One of my sisters in Christ visited and reminded me that, by His stripes I am healed. Corporate and personal prayers of family, friends and saints of God got me through that most difficult time. Even my past student bombarded heaven for “Ms. W”, his favorite teacher.
I repeated scriptures in my mind through the memorization I had hid in my heart. I sang songs like My hope is Built on Nothing Less ; Shackled by a Heavy Burden; Pass Me not oh Gentle Savior; ‘What a Friend We have in Jesus. Some of my favorite scriptures where:
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4
Psalm 27: 1
Psalm 41: 3
Psalm 46:1-4
Isaiah 43: 2
Philippians 4:8
Today I am healed and whole because of the power of prayer.

Prayer has always been a part of my life. I remember when I was very little. I learned The Lord’s Prayer. It was just a tradition then, but now it has lead me to have a relationship with my Lord. I know it was the prayers of my mother that protected me in my early years. Whenever I did wrong, I would pray and ask God if He would forgive me that time and I wouldn’t do it again. But as I grew older, I began to realize the power of prayer. I prayed when I was going through an abusive marriage and God answered my prayer for strength and courage to get out of that situation. It did not happen right away, but it happened in His time and His way. I prayed when my husband cheated on me and God healed my broken heart over time. I prayed for wisdom on how to make a life for my children and myself and God has directed my path.
God may not answer our prayers when we think He should, but I have come to realize He is always on time.
~ K.C. from Humble, Texas
Prayer has done wonderful things for me. If it were not for prayer, I don’t know what I would do because of the things I went through. There were things that I did not understand, but I prayed and put my trust in God and believed Him.
Sometimes, I did not believe that God heard my prayer, but He showed me that He always hears our prayers. I am still going through something, but He is there for me and He will bring me through everything. He will strengthen me through every situation, be with me always, and make my faith and trust in Him stronger.
There are times when I feel discouraged about some of the things I go through, but I know that through prayer, I will make it.
~J. E. from Bronx, NY
Prayer means so much to me because I have gone through many obstacles in my life. I remember when I was struggling in a class at College and I tried my best to get help. I felt like I was going to fail my class, but I remembered that I can bring everything to God and ask Him for help, by praying.
I went to God with my concern about the class and then I was able to study harder for the finals. I believe that God has helped me persevere in every challenging situation. Whenever I doubt, I just pray to God. It changes my perspective of a difficult situation. I then lean on God to help me understand His will for my life. I go to God for everything now and pray about the obstacles in my life.
My college experience has not been easy, but God has brought me close to the finish line and He didn’t leave nor forsake me.
My prayer life has also expanded in College, because of my Christian club. My friends and I created prayer groups to intercede for each other and people around the world.
Prayer is now an integral part of my life and I wouldn’t know how to survive College if I didn’t have faith in God.

What Prayer Means to Me!
Prayer is a direct conversation with God; it anchors and keeps me in step with the Spirit. Without prayer, I wouldn’t be the person that I am today. Matthew 26:41 states, “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Prayer is a crucial part of my life. It gives me the strength to aim at the path of righteousness and not fall into a life of sin. I always pray that my Father above will be happy with the way I live in this world that is filled with trials and tribulations.
My life is not perfect, but when I talk to God, I ask him to help me so that my lifestyle is pleasing to Him. Even, when I do something that doesn’t align with the Word of God, I pray to Him for forgiveness and I know that He still loves me.
Also, when my uncle died, I prayed to God for comfort and peace. Furthermore, I pray whenever someone hurts me; for passing my Physics class; for everyone, which includes enemies, friends, families, believers, and nonbelievers because we are all God’s people and we are created in His image.
Ephesians 6:18 states, “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” I thank God for all He has done for me.
Also, a song that I love that describes what prayer means to me is, “What a Friend we have in Jesus.” The line that resonates with me is, “What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!” This line reminds me that I can take everything to God in prayer because He knows and cares about what we are going through in life. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins.
Finally, God has spoken to me over the past several months through the poem “Watch and Pray” by Charlotte Elliot. This poem has helped strengthen my faith in his Word.

Let’s stop praying as an objection.
Let’s make praying a natural conservation.
When we read the bible,
Stop just only focusing on words.
How about we breathe life into these words,
And give them meaning.
Everyone knows human life is fleeting,
Eternal life is our eternal meeting.
~ J.M. from Rochester, NY
How has prayer changed my life through this Power-Filled Bible Study? In a way that far reaches even my imagination. It has propelled and prepared me for eternal life in the fullness of God’s promises.
The love that our Father lavishes upon His children is unconceivable to me. I’m so grateful for this undeserved gift called grace. The undeserved forgiveness, kindness and mercy that He shows to his children when we don’t deserve it.
And because of His great love, I pray with much more zeal and confidence in knowing my prayer will be heard. I’ve developed a greater appreciation for prayer and the power and impact that it has not only on my life but others that I pray for as well.
Through this Bible Study I have developed a bond with my Sisters in Christ who are as transparent as I and are not afraid to witness in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and not forsaking any of His benefits. I’m also grateful that Jesus said it is not that I have chosen him, but it is He who has chosen me. Through this Bible Study it has given me a better appreciation of what that means and what that looks like when you develop the mind of Christ.
know our Father in heaven takes great pleasure in the actions that we put forth in keeping true to the Vine as we have been pruned by his words. Jesus said we must go on growing in him and he will grow in us. He delights in the praises and the worship of His people. Because of my relationship with Jesus Christ our Lord, He is my first responder, my Redeemer, my Refuge where I seek shelter and rest. He is, He is, He is, and forever – MORE THAN ENOUGH.
M.R. from Humble, Texas
I had to make Jesus my focal point early in my life. Life has a way of taking us on whirling journeys and we never know what the outcome will be. Hebrews 13:8 says: Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
In March 2010, I had major surgery; the procedure is called the “Whipple Procedure”. At the time the doctors said, I had a flat polyp in my small intestine which needed to be surgically removed, as well as a portion of my pancreas, duodenum, and gall bladder. The projected recovery time 6-8 weeks. My recovery time was great. GOD had already provided all I that I needed. HE provided doctors who prayed with me prior to surgery, family, friends, and love ones to care for me, pray for me and give the necessary care as I recovered. Philippians 4:6 says: be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to GOD.
In November 2017, I lost about (25) pounds in two weeks time. I did not know what was going on nor what to look for. Through speaking with doctors and the appropriate referrals; I was told I had a toxic liver. I wanted to proceed with herbal supplements and was referred to a wellness doctor. Who prescribed herbal supplements for me to take. I begin taking the supplements. My liver is being restored. Psalm 107:20 says: He sent His word and healed them. And delivered them from their destruction.
Due to having the whipple procedure one of the side effects: whipple disease (periodic stones lodged in bile duct). Once the surgery was complete and the doctor has removed all inflamed areas; my insides were restructured. This caused me be diagnosed with “bile obstruction” commonly known as “stone lodged in my bile duct”. In August 2018, after testing and the appropriate referrals, I under went outpatient surgical procedure to remove the stone lodged in my bile duct. I took prescribe medication until the doctor released me. First Peter 2:24 says: who Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness-by whose stripes you were healed.
In July 2018, I had gone for my yearly well woman exam, was advised I had an abnormal pap smear. I was referred to Texas Oncology for additional testing and consultation. I was diagnosed with pre-cancer cells in my cervix. Currently, I am under doctor’s care and receiving medical treatment.
Through it all my focus is on Jesus, Jehovah Rapha – GOD my Healer. In the midst of it all, I continue to read GOD’s word daily, take communion daily, and believe GOD for healing. His word in Exodus 15:26 says For I am the Lord who heals you. Isaiah 40:31 says: But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not get weary, They shall walk and not faint.
So be encouraged knowing when the storms of life come our anchor and hope is in Jesus. JESUS ALONE. TO GOD BE THE GLORY FOR HEALING BEING MANIFEST IN MY BODY. MIGHTY GOD!!!

My prayer life has been amazing. I have learned not to worry about things that I can’t change. I realize before that when you pray you need to be specific in what you want. Sometimes God will give you what you ask for and sometimes he won’t. I know that God knows what is best for me and I have seen this for myself. I remember a time when I let God down when I did something that was not like him. I have had some difficult situations happen to me and I didn’t ask God in what I needed to do. I just felt I needed to do it for myself. Once I realized that I couldn’t do it for myself, I started to realize that I needed God more than ever. I decided to get myself together and start going to church. I had found out what church my friend, I decided to attend the church and I haven’t looked back. I joined the church several months later. A member that I met at church invited me to bible study. I told her yes. Ever since I have been attending the bible study, I began to learn more about the bible and what it means to me to be a part of this group of women who are strong in faith and prayer. I want to come and be a part of this every Monday morning. I look forward to attending and listening to these women of God speak about what God has done for them. My prayer life has been going great and I know that my prayers are being answered. I will not run away from God again. God may not come when you want Him, but He is always on time. I will continue to trust in God and not worry anymore.

First let me start off by saying the main reason I accepted Dr. Olive James invitation to HOEM Bible Study in June/July 2017, is strictly ordained and orchestrated by God almighty. I remember the invite as clear as day. This small petite frame, soft spoken sweet pretty lady asked me, just a regular plain LOWCF church member in a Bible Institute class “Journey of a Lifetime” to attend her Monday Bible Study class at her HOEM, ministry place. I only accepted because she asked, like she guineally wanted my presence there. So I accepted. The rest is “Divine Holy Spirit History.
You see, there was a scripture about studying God’s word I was actually trying to live out in my life, and that is 2Timothy 3:16-17– “All Scripture is God Breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. So that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” So I thought by attending Bible Study class it would help me bring this scripture alive in my Christian walk. Not only did I find the Bible study help do this, but I got a lot more rich blessing from attending Regular Monday Bible Study.
Oh Yes we study, dig, dissect the Holy word of God, But we also emphasize on the Power of Prayer. Oh Yes, when it prayer time it feels like we all going straight up to Heaven. I do pray/ talk to God alone at home, but something happens in the supernatural when we come together collectively, in unity & Love in Prayer at our Monday Bible Studies. The Holy spirit always meet me, and the rest of us there.
Yes I said that Love word, that is practiced here @ HOEM. Another great attribute of our Bible Study is the loving Sisterhood relationship that is originated from Monday Bible Studies. It has grown tremendously since my first attendance Jun/July 2017. But you see this is the works of God. Sister Olive lets the Holy Spirit lead her to genuinely & sweetly invite people, and God does the rest.
I can actually honestly say I need this Monday Bible Study, and for the sake of Holy Spirit in me I believe HOEM Monday Bible Study needs me. I’m not trying to sound arrogant or anything. I humbly say that I’m needed, because Iron does sharpen iron. We Lock Holy arms, pray for each other burdens, We rejoice in each other Blessed times as well. We genuinely care for one another. I’m still a work in process, but at HOEM, I belong.
Thank you God for using this Power Packed woman Dr. Olive James, to be about your Kingdom, and for using her to use her along with the other faithful HOEM Monday Bible Study members, to include little old short me. Dr. Olive has a great spirit of inclusion, meaning Holy spirit lets her make everyone feel like they are an integral part of what God is doing at HOEM. I’d like to close with what our “Fine Great Leader & Woman of God..Dr. Olive James, HOEM foundation scripture: Isaiah 62:3-4” “Thou shalt also be a crown of glory in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God. Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate; but thou shalt be called Hephzibah…for the Lord delighteth in thee.. WOW what a mind regulator to know that Jesus Christ Delights in little old me. This Zion’s new name is a mind blower for me. I am a Royal Diadem. Thank you HOEM Monday Bible Study, I love you, need you all, and Proud, Privileged, and Honored to be part of such Dynamic, Power Prayer filled Holy Ghost Burst out! all for Kingdom work. God Reins on HOEM.
